Manolis [Aggelopoylos] is one from the bigger popular interpreters that elected this place. Alone that dared “[kontrarei]” in popularity and impression the “emperor of” popular song [Stelio] [Kazantzidi] the period of his absolute sovereignty in the musical fixation, round the 1959. It is characteristic that in the districts of Piraeus and Athens but also in the province, the musical public was separatedi  two rival camps, “[Kazantzidikoys]” and “[Aggelopoylikoys]».

The start

 [Aggelopoylos] was given birth in 1939 in Kavala. There I have led after discussions that I had with friends, relatives and his colleagues.    His big passion was the music and the song. In [lofisko] with [rapanakia] in Saint Barbara it gathered the [tsigganopoyla] and [tragoydoyse] with hours. In 1957 [koroideyan] when it went to the popular shops of region ([Peribola], [Kefala] in [Kokkinia], [Blachos] and Garden of Allah in [Aigaleo]) and requested they leave him, in the end of program, in the empty chairs, it says also that song. A song from [ponemena] [Kazantzidi] that so much he liked. Still, it visited his near house Spyros [Zagoraioy], that then it had for big [soyxe] the song   [Kloybatoy] - [Basileiadi] “Turned on the cigarette” and asked him advices. When [tragoydise] for first time in centre “Tonight it kisses with” his [Chr]. [Kolokotroni] had still the rugs and the carpets in the shoulders. There it knew the megatheriums [Pagioymtzi], [Mpelloy] and [Aki] [Panoy]. The money that it took did not reach for “piratical” and thus the [ximeroma] turned in house with the legs. Little later it would have for his personal driver [Stelio] [Tsonidi] and it would buy a [polytelestato] black [Pezo]. In the Columbia had him goes the gipsy [mpoyzoyxis] [Anestos] Athanassios, what was important virtuoso and had collaborated with big artists: [Stelio] [Kazantzidi], Vasilis [Tsitsani], Nikos [Goynari], Keti [Gkrey], Banner [Gabala], [Giota] [Lydia] Mr a. Athanassios that was also [exadelfos] his, knowing his passion for the song it wanted it helps him. Good constitution gave also [Karapatakis], [Karanikolas], [Derbeniotis]. Unfortunately the first attempts and impressions that it left were not satisfactory. Big “[mpam]”

  

And suddenly it came out “[Magkala]” his [Attalidi], that [kateplixe] the world and thanks to this was established [Aggelopoylos]. This strange song with the [anatolitiki] melody and the Indian name was wedded unique with his flexible, sweet and “[anarchi]” voice and competed [epaxia] “[Mantoympala]” [Kazantzidi] that her sales touched upon the 100.000 copies.    [Aggelopoylos] made “[mpam]” because the freshness of her his voice and unique plaintive [ichochroma] with the [anatolitiki] lustfulness they liked in the world, that loved him and him worshipped. Few months afterwards the circulation “[Magkalas]”, shops were lented for their eave this exotic Indian name - as it happened also with “[Mantoympala]” - and girls “good” but also other of least “[agnon] morals”, fell on him as the bees in the honey. “I love [Annoyla]”

   His bond with Anna [Basileioy], in the first years the '60,  it was the scandal of season. The gipsies with their strict moral and unwritten laws did not want their hero it is wedded somebody where you do not belong in their race. The magazines filled daily with gossips: it took him, they were stolen, they separated… [Derbeniotis] it wrote [thryliko]: “My Mum, sweet [manoyla]/I love [Annoyla]/[stenachoriesai] mum if I am not wedded gipsy”. With [Annoyla] [Aggelopoylos] created one from the more popular popular duets. Together [tragoydisan] in [Ntelis], in Piraeus, in [Mantoympala], in the White Earth, in Turkey, in Canada, in Australia… With [Annoyla] they acquired three children and afterwards were wedded.

   [Aggelopoylos] was one from the artists that were also worshipped in the abroad. It travelled almost in all lengths and widths of ground. Even today his songs in Israel, in Egypt, Turkey and the Arabic world realise satisfactory sales.

   [Aggelopoylos] collaborated closely with [Giota] [Lydia] in [Magkala], in their Keratsini, with [mpoyzoykia] [Karanikola], [Mpithikotsi], [Layka] and in the Green Mill (was renamed in Six brothers and [Mantoympala]), with [mpoyzoykia] their [Argyri] [Bambakari], Yannis [Palaiologoy], [Stelio] [Bambakari], but also in the discography as duet (“As god [I] love you”, “You come [gyfto] my you come” Mr a.). [Lydia] makes also him [segonta] and in [thryliki] “[Magkala]». Brilliant collaborations were also these with Keti [Gkrey] in “You go up in my table of” [Mpakali] - [Birboy] but also in the centre [Rosiniol], in [Treis] Bridges. Also with Very [Panoy] in “Sad [Nargkis]” that [Mpakalis] was inspired by famous then in our country Indian actor.

   In [Falirikon], [Margomenoy], in [Tzitzifies], [Aggelopoylos] had it still goes in 1957, insignificant, in order to it hears [Kazantzidi]. Of course “it ate” the income from two carpets that it had sold. That would imagine then that few years later [tragoydoyse] there a lot of seasons, as their first name, next to [Tsitsani], [Mitsaki], [Chrysafi], [Papadaki], [Chatziantonioy], [Eystathioy], [Rena] [Ntalma], [Charoyla] [Lampraki], Vasilis [Basileiadi]. In the same centre it left season and his collaboration with Vangelis [Perpiniadi].

Maturity

As long as they passed the years the voice burdened, it matured… The courses of schoolteachers -[Attalidi], [Derbenioti], [Kolokotroni], [Karapataki], [Karanikola], [Mitsaki], [Layka], [Mpakali], [Kaldara], [Chioti], [Tsitsani]- anymore they had shaped his explanatory seal. Certain songs that it made with more “[entechna]” characteristically with [Pitsiladi] (“I do not have balcony ΄[rthei] swallow” in verses of Happiness [Papagiannopoyloy]), the Wise man (“When you will leave from [mena] where all”, “the love”), [Karapataki] (“The my passing charms” in verses '[Aggeloy] Attic) but also his own creations as “the street”, proved that it could move itself with comfort and mastery in the all types of Greek song.      The streets of however song became more “[entechnoi]” and more “[emporikobiomichanikoi]». Front in a “Big gipsy” even the marketing raises [amichana] the hands tall. [Aggelopoylos] leaves from the Columbia in 1967. [Ichografei] in [Benteta] and Everything [Box] (later [Mioysik] [Mpox] and today [MBI]). In better his it returned in the Columbia, the season where [Kazantzidis] it was found “In the street of return” in [Minos], after 12 years of [diskografikis] silence.  With his first - and unfortunately last disk of 33 turns it retook the sceptres of “Sovereign” with his own way: “Greek I am [Anatolitis]” and “When you dance my eyes” as “[Bardaris]” you say me “What I make in order to you I keep” and I extinguish [groysoyziki] “Pencil” that wrote “[barethike] my soul” after “a love, a flame, a fire” made “Thousand pieces” the “Children of Paradise”. So much successes and so much collaborations - with [Nikolopoylo], [Bardi], Takis [Soyka], [Chapsiadi], [Zerba], [Kampoyridi], [Spyropoyloy]- in one only disk.

   The first time where I met him I was 11 years. The season of Refugee, then that made [chalasmo] with “your black eyes”. I found itself in the [piso] seat [Fornt] [Taoyns] and I waited for we put him petrol pump attendant, in his [Mamidaki], in Saint Barbara. White [Mersentes] it stopped in by my. I saw white [flokates], [chaimalia] that embelished him. It opened the door and it came out outside… Sovereign right with his far hair, his his his mustache, leather [kaparntina], [pompodi] [fersimata]. Άνοιξε πλατιά τα χέρια του κι αγκάλιασε τον πατέρα μου. Him I heard it shouts [anamesa] [st]' other of “Nikolas, [re] Nikolas, your son [ein]' this [re]; ” When it caressed me [psilosa] a lot. I have the impression that the “Sovereign” was stirred, him took patriotically the question, and wanted he puts the things in their place, he shows who makes [koymanto] and he is the boss in his house. Serious, [kolaristos], dressed in the “[kantini] and in the pen” it pulled “his pencil” and erased [[ό]], what existed before, earlier. Took the courage and went down the narrow steps in the backstages. [Mes]' general [chamo] I found itself at some time [dipla] him. A book for the “sovereign”

I was glad when I heard Nikos [Ziogala] [tragoyda] for “[mpases] Manolis” in “[Ach] that hurts me”. Many know him through “Pencil” and other [apostrefontai] because they are “[gyftos]”. It wants fight until you explain the history, until “you cook” they hear the songs that they love and know without… they know the popular singer Manolis [Aggelopoylo]. Finally [stenachoriomoyn] that I did not also hear I did not read anymore his name. It was forgotten as [Gabalas], [Kolokotronis], [Karapatakis], [Laykas], [Tzoyanakos], [Chrysinis]...
